1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

 Our approach is to allow an individual to make informed decisions following the receipt of appropriate advice.

Our specialist team of lawyers are trained to identify the relevant issues and pride ourselves on delivering expert, pragmatic advice.

We do not attempt to deal with issues arising outside our area of expertise referring any such matters to the appropriate specialist either within our practice or elsewhere.

Our approach is to allow an individual to make informed decisions following the receipt of appropriate advice.

We work closely with other professionals to provide an "all round" service catering to our clients' needs.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

1. To raise awareness within our practice of the issues that may arise as  a result of dementia;

2. To ensure that our lawyers take extra time to identify the specialist needs of both the client living with dementia and their families;

3. To liaise with medical practitioners to ensure a better understanding of our client’s condition;

4. To involve family members (where appropriate) to ensure that a full picture of our client’s needs is identified;

5. To ensure that any advice given is clear and transparent;

6. To ensure wherever possible that the advice given is understood by the person living with dementia and, where appropriate, their family.
