1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

As a company we aim to deliver the best care with a person centered approach. Sanctuary homes specialise in dementia and have a strategy that is being implemented around the home, and all staff attend dementia training.

Sanctuary offer support to relatives of our residents as it can be a very difficult time for all. We offer an environment that is fit for purpose and that is suitable for all. East Park are also holding Dementia coffee mornings once a month in the home.

The training is very good with Sanctuary and there are lots of opportunities for the staff to progress with their career.

We have Dementia leads within the home and specialists; we have a fantastic activities coordinator that gets involved with all aspects of the home.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Time constraints.

Staff ratio. When staff are absent it is difficult to fit in training etc. and have enough coverage within the home.

2. Actions

  • Dementia Champions

The Home Manager, two members of staff and the activities coordinator have all attended specialist training in dementia and are Dementia Champions for East Park Court.

Following on from this training, the staff members hold monthly Dementia Coffee Mornings for residents, family members and carers.
