capital TEA Ltd.

We are a travelling tea party company, taking the whole afternoon tea experience to the client's home. Our new project, “Refresh Your Memory”, will provide an afternoon tea party service, with beautiful china tea-sets, home-made cakes, and “real” tea. We have nostalgia items from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s which can be passed around, evoking memories of yesteryear. We will also have display boards with adverts and other printed material of interest from each decade. Each monthly party will cover one of the decades. Our staff will be dressed in themed clothing, and we will play music from the era too. The whole event will Refresh Your Memory!

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our new project "Refresh Your Memory" will bring nostalgia tea parties to the some of the dementia-friendly local communities in Wigan, Warrington, and throughout the North West.

The parties will be based on one decade per month - the 40's in month One, through to the 70's in month Four.  We do this rather than try to cover the four decades each month, which may be confusing.

In addition to National and World events, we are able to also include very specific local items and photographs.  For example, Wigan has a very strong mining history, and Warrington the wire manufacturing industry, which we can cover.  Photographs will be obtained from the archives of local libraries of the streets and landmarks known to our guests.

We have the flexibility to listen to the needs and preferences of our guests and make our parties an enjoyable and supportive event.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

This is a brand new  venture for us. We need staff training in dementia awareness.  We would like to work with organisations who are experts in this field that we can learn from.

Our initial challenge is getting to know how we can best deliver an enjoyable and supportive service to our guests.  We will welcome opinions and feedback.

If any help is available from the volunteering community, this would be very welcome.

  • Flexibility to personalise the Tea Parties

We have the flexibility to tailor the parties to the wishes of the guests.  For example, the music played - when guests ring for information/to book to attend, they will be asked if they have any musical requests which we will then endeavour to play at the party.  Cake preferences can also be catered for.  All requests will be heard and actioned, as far as humanly possible!!
