West Exe School

West Exe School is vibrant and innovative where we promote ‘Excellence for All, in all that WE do’ and believe in ‘Bringing Learning to Life’. We are an 11-16 edge of city comprehensive housed in modern, purpose-built accommodation; a bright and stimulating place for students to learn and for staff to work. We aim to provide a learning environment in which all students feel safe, valued and known, where they can develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become successful learners, confident young people and responsible global citizens. We are proud of both the academic success and personal development of our students. Creative, active lessons and consistently high expectations ensure that students grow in confidence and make very good progress. This enables them to move onto college, apprenticeships, university or work as well-rounded, aspirational young people.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Action 1: We will support the work of the Exeter Dementia Alliance and become a Dementia Friendly school community.

Action 2: We will actively encourage and assist other schools within the area to join the alliance and raise further dementia awareness.

Action 3: We will seek to organise regular Dementia Friends training sessions and events for students and staff.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We need to broadly raise awareness within the school community.

We also need to ensure appropriate time is provided within the school curriculum to allow the scheme to have maximum impact.

The School Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team are in full support of the Action Plan.
