1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

At Asda we pride our self with the best colleagues in retail that go above and beyond for our customers.

Clear signage and escorted shopping trips are amongst many steps that we are going through to help us be more dementia friendly.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

As an organisation we do take every customer to the item shelf for any part of their shopping experience that they need help with.

I'm sure that most of us would benefit from some basic dementia training to improve our understanding, and would offer help to anyone that seeks assistance and for the help to be carried out in the correct, sensitive way and with the right approach.

  • Assisted Shopping

Promote assisted shopping for those in need of support. Customers can book assisted shopping in advance via customer services. A colleague will then support the individual in completing their shopping, but also if the customer would like to go for something to eat in the cafe.

    2016 - Second Quarter Update

Assisted shopping has been highly successful in our store and in the last six months we have seen an uptake on this offer. We are extremely pleased with the way this is working and will continue to promote and offer this service.

  • Safe Places Initiative

We will look into working with the local police to provide a safe place when needed.
