1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Chase Leisure Centre offers a wide variety of activities for people to be active within a safe environment and still have an active role within their community.

We are able to offer opportunities for people living with dementia and their carers to participate in physical activity that suits their needs and to be active together. Also supporting carers to maintain an active healthy lifestyle to support their wellbeing in what can be a stressful time.

Chase Leisure Centre has a state of the art sensory room, which can be used to support people living with dementia to manage anxiety and agitation. As a key community venue Chase Leisure Centre can play an important role in raising awareness of dementia in Cannock by informing staff and customers of the DAA and Dementia Friends initiative.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Challenges that face Chase Leisure Centre are the fact it is a community venue, there are uncontrollable busy times. The centre would not be able to offer exclusive sessions within these times particularly suited to people living with dementia, however would be able to signpost people to times that would more suit their needs. Further to this staffing can be a challenge as in centre times staff many not be available to offer one-to-one support.

2. Actions

  • Front line staff attend Dementia Awareness session

To increase understanding within the staff and ensure that relevant members of staff can fully support people living with dementia and their carers to use the facility.
