1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We would like people living with Dementia and their carers to feel supported within our store, when visiting to shop or when using our hospitality facilities.  We would like them to feel welcomed and able to trust that each Partner they meet will be helpful and supportive.  We want their relationship with Partners to compliment their existing social networks.  Through our home delivery service we extend the same support and help along with our 'Secondary Contact Alert Service' for those living independently.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

At present we want to run awareness events for as many Partners as possible.  This is difficult given the shift patterns Partners work.  We now have one Partner trained as a Dementia Champion so that we can be more responsive to training needs.

2. Actions

  • Running of staff awareness sessions.

    For the Dementia Champion to run awareness sessions, inviting Partners at Waitrose to become Dementia friends.  This is to begin with key Customer Service Partners.

  • To provide a Dementia Friendly shopping and dining experience for customers.

    For staff who have attended awareness raising sessions and signed up to becoming Dementia Friends to be more aware and proactive in providing a dementia friendly service and shopping environment.  For them to address any new initiative in a way that bears in mind that some of our customers are living with dementia.
