1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

We have formed 'Shevington and District Dementia Friendly Network' as a sub-group of the Community Association and in liaison with Wigan Council's Dementia Friendly initiative. The DF Network aims to raise awareness of dementia amongst local individuals, orgnaisations and businesses. We will also try to help increase the engagement of local people with dementia in local groups and services by bringing organisers together and raising the profile of what is available.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

We recognise the challenge of recruiting busy front line services and businesses to engage in the awareness sessions.

We recognise the challenge of providing support for carers.

We recognise the challenge of engaging with isolated people living alone.

We realise that our activities may result in us finding more people who would benefit from Befriending services.

2. Actions

  • Encouraging engagement in local DF provision.

Our Network will try to bring together providers from all sectors to raise the profile of what is avaiable in dementia services. Through joint advertising activities and through local word of mouth promotion we aim to make local people more aware of available groups and activities which are accessible for people with dementia and the services which are working towards being dementia friendly.

We hope to reach people who are isolated and help them access support that will help them engage with their community.
