1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Mindful Gifts CIC enables people with dementia access meaningful activities. We do this by:

1. Providing a solution to family who do not know what to buy a loved one for special occasions such as Birthdays and Christmas. Our activities are all adult appropriate and suitable for people with dementia. Our range of assistive technology gives the peace of mind that their loved one is safe.

2. Providing an opportunity for carers to have a well-deserved break whilst their loved one enjoys an activity

3. Providing a solution to residential homes and hospitals that need 'dementia friendly ' activities. We provide a one stop shop for activities that have been tried and tested for people with dementia.

3. Providing a range of services including Peer Support Groups, reminiscence workshops and activity sessions.

4. Providing training on 'Dementia Culture Awareness' and 'Delivering Meaningful Activities'.

5. Providing dementia awareness sessions and activity days.

6. Providing information, advice and sign posting form our unique High Street shop.

7. Providing an activity (i.e. Jigsaw) to individuals who are not taking part in activities. We assess the person to get to know more about them, to ensure they get an activity that they will enjoy.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Our challenges include:

Being able to raise awareness of what Mindful Gifts CIC offers to family who are looking for gift ideas.

Being able to raise awareness to professionals about what we offer in the way of:  suitable activities, advice on the benefits of activities, training available to care staff on how they can deliver meaningful activities even if they have only got 5 minutes to spare.

Being able to make the necessary contacts with the people who can make a difference i.e commissioners, local authorities, mental health trusts, care home managers, hospital managers.

Being able to take on staff due to financial constraints.

Being able to access larger premises that is affordable and in prime locations.
