1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our aim is to ensure that all clients receive clear advice tailored to their needs. Our approach wherever possible is to allow an individual to make informed decisions following the receipt of appropriate advice. Our specialist team of lawyers are trained to identify the relevant issues and offer solutions to problems, wherever possible. We do not attempt to deal with issues arising outside our area of expertise referring any such matters to the appropriate specialist either within our practice or elsewhere. We work closely with other professionals to provide an "all round" service catering to our clients' needs.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

1. To raise awareness within our practice of the issues that may arise as a result of dementia;

2. To ensure that our lawyers take extra time to identify the specialist needs of the client living with dementia and their families;

3. To liaise with medical practitioners to ensure a better understanding of the person's condition;

4. To involve family members where appropriate to ensure that a full picture of the person's needs is identified;

5. To ensure that the advice given is clear and transparent; and 6. To ensure wherever possible that the advice given is understood by the person living with dementia and, where appropriate, their family.
