Engaging Communities

Engaging Communities is an independent, not for profit, community interest company that works as a “go to” consultancy for public, private and third sector organisations for service driven engagement and research work. To do this we bring together public engagement, consultation and consumer advice services within a central organisation.

1. Action Plan

1. The National Dementia Declaration lists seven outcomes that the DAA are seeking to achieve for people with dementia and their carers. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Engaging Communities Staffordshire delivers Healthwatch Staffordshire and has a role providing information and advice to members of the public, their family and carers. We are committed to reaching out to those who might not ordinarily access services and raising the profile of issues for older people generally as well as those with dementia. As part of this role we will work across health and social care organisations to provide a voice for the people who use the services and the people who might need to advocate for them. Engaging Communities Staffordshire undertakes Research Projects on behalf of local trusts, commissioners and council organisations. To this end we are involved in research projects that investigate patient and carer experience for people with Dementia accessing services and make recommendations for improving those services based on this research.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

The challenge for Engaging Communities Staffordshire is a relatively small organisation with limited capacity to reach out to all the residents in the county and work closely with the families and carers of those with dementia, which is why we need to work in partnership with the third sector organisations and carer’s networks locally.
